Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and the state legislature officially created the Center for Rural Prosperity & Innovation at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College earlier this year with the goal of addressing the conditions, needs, issues, and problems affecting rural economic development as well as examining related policy areas, like the farm bill.
Dr. Stanley Fletcher is a policy professor at the new center, formally with the National Center for Peanut Competitiveness, who has worked farm bills going back 25 years. He presented information at the conference this year on the importance of representative peanut farms when it comes to developing farm bill policy.
